We hit the lower river on Sat to meet some friends. We planned on meeting at Black Gulch South, Sat morning. Cloudy and fairly cool, temps in the mid 50's. The gates to the unimprovrd campground are now closed. We walked about a 1/2 mile down to the river and fished for about 2 hours. Water clarity was good. We only took spin gear, and that did not prove very effective. Between the 4 of us, we landed a grand total of one (1) trout, about 11", on my second cast with a Mepps Balck Beauty. We threw just about everything at them, but no takers. Our friends decided to head back, but we were not ready to accept defeat so easily, so we decided to drive up to the cemetary. The pool there at the base of the parking area is starting to come back, and the riffles above also are looking good. Karen landed the only fish there, about a 12" on the Panther Martin. We again decided that that wasn't good enough, and headed to Halfway. Karen fished with the Panther Martin and got twin 12" fish on her first two casts. I took me a little longer, about another 15 minutes to get my first. In about an hour, we landed and released 10 fish total, 5 each, ranging from about 6" (mine) to 14" (Karen's). All the fish seemed very healthy. After reading the reports below, I wish we had brought along the fly gear. All the fish we ended up landing were hooked in fast water, usually on the swing at the tailout of small pockets. The gold blade seemed to really attract attention. Matt
