After checking in with Guy, we decided to hit the lower river on Saturday. Got a few flies from him, checked on conditions, and off we went. The weather was picture perfect-Clear blue skies, minimal wind, and in the upper 60's for air temps. We stopped at the powerplant first. We fished the area both above and below the outlet for about a half an hour. Neither of us had any takers, I fished with a Kern Emerger or a Glo Bug on a fast sinking head, Karen fished with a spinning rig, trying a couple of different lures. Neither of us had any action, so we decided to move. The first plan was to hit Miracle, but decided to go all the way down to the first bridge, where the new day use area is. Lots of people fishing right near the parking area, so I headed off upstream, and found a likely spot just above the bridge. Water was pretty murky, a fairly usual occurence for the lower river, and water temp was 46-48 degrees. I fished a little eddie near the edge of a little pool, and hooked up within about 5 minutes. A Kern Emerger doing the damage.

A nice 15" rainbow, and very chunky. I continued on upriver for another 45 minutes, but was unable to land another fish. Tried a few other patterns to no aveail- Glo Bugs, BHPT. Talked to a few others, and no one seemed to get anything. We headed back upriver to Miracle, and Karen took a shot just below the kayak slalom course. It was getting dark and cooling off rapidly in the bottom of the canyon, and Karen was unable to get any takers. We left after about 1/2 hour, a total of one fish. Sunday broke much colder, with some wind, and a very light snow was falling at about 12:30 at 6000 ft as we left. Rain on and off all the way back, the heaviest coming near Tejon Pass. The 5 near Templin Hwy is open 3 lanes in both directions, and traffic is not slowing appreciably in either direction. Matt
